The Cal Poly Triathlon Team
The Cal Poly Triathlon Team is one of the largest and most active sports clubs on campus with over 100 members. We help students achieve their goals in the sport of triathlon—whether it’s crossing the finish line for the first time or stepping up to the podium—regardless of their previous experience in triathlon. Many new members come to the team with asbolutely no previous swim, bike, or run experience.
We primarily compete in the West Coast Collegiate Triathlon Conference against schools such as UC Berkeley and Stanford, which culminates in the prestigious USAT Collegiate National Championships at the end of the collegiate triathlon season. Our team members also compete in races outside the collegiate circuit and around the world including the Ironman Hawaii World Championships and the USAT Age Group Championships.
We are partnered with some of the best brands in triathlon, which allows us to significantly reduce the cost of triathlon for our members. Whether it’s strongly discounted bikes or race entry fees, we make triathlon affordable for college students.
Our Races
The Cal Poly Triathlon Team hosts two events as fundraisers for the team: the Chains of Love run and the March Triathlon Series.
Chains of Love is a 5k/10k/15k run that includes a 1/2 mile kids fun run that occurs every year on Valentine's Day weekend on the beautiful Cal Poly Campus. It features a couples division (cross the finish line with your sweetie!) and our infamous race-leading Cupids.
The March Triathlon Series consists of sprint- and olympic-distance triathlons that take place in and around beautiful Lake Lopez. MTS has grown from a small collegiate race to one of the largest endurance sports events in San Luis Obispo with over 525 competitors. The sprint-distance is part of the West Coast Collegiate Conference race calendar but the general public is welcome to race in either distance.
