Our team’s 10th Anniversary Tritonman race next weekend is shaping up to be
a great event and the current weather forecast is for no rain and temps in
the low 70s. We’ll have a very competitive field this year, including UC
San Diego’s own Amanda Felder (a 2X National Collegiate Triathlon Champion
who started this race 10 years ago and served as the first race director of
Tritonman), coming out of retirement to do the women’s draft-legal race and
1982 IM World Champion Kathleen McCartney, who will be racing in the
classic sprint on Sunday.

Our women’s draft-legal race is still accepting entries, but the men’s
draft-legal race, capped to 75 athletes due to USAT rules, was sold out
long ago and those athletes on the waiting list will be getting first crack
at spots that are being made available by entrants who drop out. Our race
director, Dave Berry, made a conscious effort to reserve spots during our
open registration period for collegiate athletes, particularly those from
our conference who wanted to enter the male draft legal race. Unfortunately
college students too often wait until the last minute to do things, so not
everyone was able to get in before the race closed. Dave dropped one of our
own team’s athletes from the start list two weeks ago to make room for one
more athlete on the waiting list and has been doing the best he can to
accommodate everyone. But unfortunately, athletes who did not put their
names on the waiting list have virtually no chance to get in at this late
date, since that would mean discounting those people who made the effort to
get on the waiting list. Thanks for your understanding and we look forward
to seeing all of you next weekend!
