Workouts
Swim: Monday night is a 1,000-yard time trial for experienced swimmers. Yardage will not decrease this week.
Bike: Saturday morning is a 20-mile time trial for most athletes. Weekday rides will be short and easy (60-75 minutes).
Run: Thursday morning is a 5-k time trial for those of us who have been running consistently. Tuesday is 30-35 minutes, Sunday is 50-60 minutes.
The purpose of this rest week is threefold: to absorb the training done in the previous weeks, to mentally/physically recover from the rigors of high-volume base training, and to minimize the risk of overuse injuries. After this rest and test week you should be feeling more energetic, less lethargic, and looking forward to the next four weeks of high-volume low-intensity base training. Workouts will continue to be at conversational pace.
"We must remember that one man is much the same as another, and that he is best who is trained in the severest school." - Thucydides, "History of the Peloponnesian War" (431-404 B.C.)
*Workouts are for paid members only.
